Sheakley Center Terrace

Sheakley Center Terrace is a new outdoor gathering space and terrace for the Lighthouse Sheakley Center for Youth in Cincinnati. The Center is a shelter where homeless young adults learn self-reliance and life skills.

Overall the idea was to create a secondary, secure outdoor hang-out space to be both connected to and slightly separate from the existing main building and outdoor gathering area.

The new terrace lies to the east and uphill from the center’s main outdoor terrace. The materials palette is simple including saw-cut concrete paving, a modular retaining wall system, cedar and pressure treated wood at the canopy shelter, and landscape boulders and plantings.

I loved working closely on this project with the contractor and the Lighthouse people throughout the construction.
