Urban Agricultural Learning Center
The concept behind this greenhouse was to provide a learning space for students at the nearby Lighthouse School. The first of several commissions for Lighthouse Youth and Family Services, it is located in a transitioning early 20th century Cincinnati residential neighborhood.
This gave me the opportunity to work with experts in the functioning of aquaponic and solar greenhouses.
My design vision was to use an ordered grid based on the modular size of the polycarbonate solar glazing panels to create a white backdrop for the plant life inside and outside of the greenhouse.
I derived great satisfaction from helping Lighthouse get this project built for the benefit of the high school students. I love the way it becomes a glowing lantern at night set back from the street corner.
